REC Equine Specialists offers a full equine ophthalmology service (led by Dr Richard Humberstone) for first opinion examinations and referrals for more complex eye problems.

Horses have large eyes prominently positioned on the outer aspect of the head which makes them prone to injury and disease. Among the many common conditions we treat are corneal injuries, infections & ulcers, corneal stromal abscesses, uveitis, immune mediate diseases and ocular tumors.

We have full medical and surgical facilities including an operating microscope.  REC Equine Specialists now provides Collagen Cross-Linking, this advanced treatment is an important step forward in treating eye injuries, offering an effective option for reducing the need for invasive surgery.

For some intraocular problems such as cataract surgery, we work closely with visiting registered specialist veterinary ophthalmologists.
